There are two main options to fly into Miami, Opa-Locka Airport (OPF) and Miami international (MIA). While both airports have Customs officials and can handle international flights, Miami international has a larger Customs operation and usually moves quicker than the Opa-Locka Customs, which is a call-out service that can sometimes take a bit longer.
The best aircraft to use to fly into Miami is determined more by where you are leaving from and how many people will be travelling with you on the aircraft. For instance, if you are chartering a jet from New York City to Miami with 5 people and light luggage I would recommend a Light Jet, if you had 7 or 8 passengers on the aircraft I would suggest a Midsize Jet.
While Opa-Locka is the preferred charter airport in Miami but it is about 10 minutes farther from downtown. Although Opa-Locka is farther from Miami it is usually quicker to get in and out of due to lack of commercial travel and the ground traffic associated with it.
We can have a rental car waiting at the FBO for you upon your arrival into either airport in Miami. We have access to many different vehicles including sports cars, luxury sedans and SUVs and even a large variety of convertibles to enjoy the Miami weather.
Miami’s airports can support all types and sizes of private jets. The aircraft you choose should be tailored to the distance you are flying, the number of passengers and amount of baggage you’re bringing along, as well as your budget and preferences.
The following table shows the average ranges (in statute miles and flight hours) for all the major aircraft types, as well as their average cubic ft. of baggage space:
Aircraft Type |
Average Range (St. Miles) |
Average Range (Flight Hrs) |
Baggage Space (cu. Ft) |
---|---|---|---|
Turboprop | 1,000-2,000 | 2.5-3.5 | 50-80 |
Very Light Jet | 1,300-1,600 | 2.5-3.0 | 40-60 |
Light Jet | 1,200-2,000 | 3.0-4.0 | 50-80 |
Midsize Jet | 2,000-3,000 | 3.5-4.5 | 60-90 |

Heavy Jet | 3,500-5,000 | 5.0-7.5 | 115-225 |
